Single Sign On (SSO) Readiness Checklist

This tool exists to help schools confirm they are ready to enable NSW Department of Education Single Sign On (SSO) as their authenication method.

This will mean that as long as a user is logged into the DET Portal, they will not need to enter a username and password to access Sentral, they will be automatically authenticated via the DET Portal.

Requirements for NSW DET SSO
  • Accounts for Sentral must have the same username as the account used to access the DET Portal
  • Service Accounts must be created for the use with the Kiosk
  • Service Accounts must be created for publishing timetables via LISS
  • The DET NSW SSO service provider must be enabled.  Once enabled, groups must be managed via the DET NSW SSO group function.
The DETNSW SSO Readiness Checklist
  • The checklist is available under the Sentral Cog > Manage User Accounts > DETNSW SSO Readiness Checklist

This will allow you to check if you meet the Criteria for enabling SSO, and to migrate across to the new system if you ready.
  • Click on Save and Next button.
1. Require existing users to update their usernames
This first step will send out a mass request to current Sentral users, requiring them to update their username to match their login for the DET Portal.
This will prevent the creation of duplicate or broken accounts when you switch to SSO.
When this step is completed, users will see a request to update their usernames the next time they login into Sentral.

Note: Sentral Users can confirm they are already logging in with the DET Portal creditionals. (This is anyone who is logging in via DET Portal Cloud and will not be asked to update their usernames.)

2. Confirm User Accounts
The next screen allows you to check and confirnm which users have successfully updated their user name, these will be shaded green and marked with a tick.
Pending accounts will be marked with a question mark.

  • You can click on Show Unconfirmed Accounts button to filter to display only those accounts that have not been updated.
Note: if you still have existing accounts belonging to former staff members, it is recommended you deactivate these users before proceeding.
  • Click on the Next button.
3. Setup Service Accounts
Service Accounts need to be created if:
- You use the Sentral Kiosk for either student or visitor sign-in
- You use LISS to publish your timetables to Sentral (e.g. Edval)

  • If you do require  to create a new service account, click on the New Service Account button.

  • Once created, click on the Save button, you can then click on the Next button.
4. Enable SSO
Once the above screens have been completed, you are ready to enable SSO.
Note: staff will no longer login to Sentral, they will access automatically via the DET Portal authentication. Staff should be prepared for this change before you enable SSO.
